The Nationwide League One (NLO) has confirmed that Ben Akwuegbu Football Club of Plateau State has acquired an existing Division One slot and will from 2023 season participate in the league, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ben Akwuegbu FC is owned by ex-international Ben Akwuegbu who declared his intention to contest for the position of Presidency at the recently concluded Nigeria Football Federation election which was won by Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau in Benin City.

Akwuegbu formed Akwuegbu United in Imo state in 2003 and later formed Mbaise United which later went on to represent Imo State alongside Heartland in the national FA Cup.

However, following a letter signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo of the league division governing body to the Plateau State FA, Ben Akwuegbu FC, 'must be an affiliate of the Plateau State Football Association since all the club home matches will be played in Plateau.'

The club is expected to liaise with Plateau State FA for players’ registration and other documentation as regards participation in the 2023 Nationwide League One season.
