Super Eagles Legend Urges NFF To Stick With Local Coach

Former Nigeria's Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to stick with the local coaches, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The position of the Super Eagles has been vacant since the departure of Finidi George as the head coach.

While speaking on Brila FM, the former Shakhtar Donetsk player said paying Herve Renard or any other foreign coach might be difficult.

" Herve Renard is a very good coach, he has the experience when it comes to African football and even World football, but we have to be realistic. Can we afford him with his price tag?

" Even when the former coach was handling the team and he was earning $50,000 to $70,000, it was difficult for us to pay him.

" We owned him for months, and now we are talking about double that amount; where are we going to get the money from? 

" The way we think is the reason we get the result we do if we want to give this to a home-grown coach; we have our colleagues that have been into coaching for some time; we know them, give them the job and pay them well.

" We might not pay them as much as the white coaches, but pay them well, give them enough time to build the team, and I have confidence in the homegrown coaches", he said.
