Nigeria made a strong impression as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) launched its Diaspora Tour for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, with the inaugural event drawing football icons, music stars, and fans to London’s Piccadilly Circus, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi, alongside Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, represented the country at the kickoff ceremony, CAF announced in a statement released on Friday. They were joined by Ghanaian music sensation Stonebwoy and former Arsenal Vice-Chairman David Dein, adding star power to the launch.
According to CAF, the Diaspora Tour will be held across two major European cities, with the next stop scheduled for Paris from December 3 to 4. Fans in London were given the opportunity to meet football legends and view the official TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Trophy, which attracted crowds in the iconic Piccadilly Circus.
In Paris, the original AFCON Trophy will be officially unveiled at the Palais de Tokyo’s Yoyo hall on December 3 during the tour’s opening ceremony. The trophy will then return to Morocco on December 4 for the commencement of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 Trophy Tour.
Thursday night’s London event featured a special performance by Odumodublvck and Stonebwoy, energizing an audience of international media, sponsors, and CAF partners.
CAF described the tour as a celebration of the deep cultural and sporting ties that unite African football with its global diaspora, paying tribute to both legendary African players who excelled in Europe and the communities that support them.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will take place from December 21 to January 18, with 24 national teams set to compete for the continent’s most coveted football title.
