Super Eagles Midfielder Shows Off UEFA Conference League Medal After Crystal Palace Spell

By BSN Sports

Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has shared his UEFA Europa Conference League winner's medal on social media following the conclusion of his loan spell at Crystal Palace, accompanying the post with a message that many have interpreted as a subtle swipe at former manager Oliver Glasner, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Uche joined Palace on loan from Spanish side Getafe last season after emerging as one of the club's standout performers. However, the move failed to produce the expected breakthrough, with the Nigerian midfielder finding opportunities hard to come by under Glasner.

The 23-year-old made 14 Premier League appearances, all as a substitute, accumulating just 159 minutes without registering a goal or an assist. Although he featured during the first half of Palace's UEFA Europa Conference League campaign and scored twice, he was omitted from the squad for the knockout rounds.

Crystal Palace eventually lifted the Conference League trophy, and Uche received a winner's medal despite his absence from the latter stages of the competition.

Sharing a photo of the medal on social media over the weekend, Uche wrote: "A devilish person might try to bring you down with their wicked actions, but you are resilient and blessed, rising above their negativity. Thank you, UEFA."

While the midfielder did not mention anyone by name, the post has been widely interpreted as a veiled reference to his difficult experience under Glasner.

Towards the end of last season, Uche publicly suggested that the Palace manager did not favour him, expressing frustration over his limited opportunities, although Glasner never publicly responded to those claims.

Uche's loan agreement reportedly included an obligation-to-buy clause valued between €18 million and €20 million, contingent on him making at least 10 Premier League starts. The condition was never met, as all of his league appearances came from the bench, bringing his spell at Selhurst Park to an end.

Having returned to Getafe, Uche is expected to resume preparations for the new season as he looks to revive his career in Spain. The midfielder has also been linked with several clubs, including Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, AC Milan, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford.
