Super Eagles Mini Tournament In Jordan Faces Relocation Or Cancellation
Sampson Adedeji
Plans for the proposed mini-tournament involving the Super Eagles later this month are now uncertain, with organizers considering relocating the event to Europe or canceling it entirely, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The invitational competition was originally scheduled to take place in Amman and feature Nigeria, Jordan national football team, Iran national football team, and Costa Rica national football team during the March FIFA international window.
Nigeria were expected to face Iran in their opening match before taking on hosts Jordan later in the tournament.
However, the tournament has been thrown into doubt following Iran’s withdrawal from the competition amid the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
With one of the participating teams now out, organizers are exploring alternative arrangements.
Reports indicate that the event could either be moved to a neutral venue in Europe or canceled altogether if logistical challenges persist.
Should the mini-tournament fail to go ahead, discussions are ongoing to stage a single international friendly between Nigeria and Jordan instead.
The match would also likely be played in Europe to avoid security concerns in the Middle East.
The March FIFA international window was expected to provide the Super Eagles with valuable preparation matches as the team continues to rebuild ahead of future competitive fixtures.
