Nigerian international midfielder Joe Aribo has officially left Southampton after his contract with the club expired, bringing an end to a four-year spell at St Mary’s Stadium that was marked by both promise and challenges, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Premier League side confirmed the departure on Saturday, thanking the 29-year-old for his contributions during his time with the Saints.

Aribo joined Southampton from Rangers in 2022 and went on to make over 80 appearances across all competitions.

However, his time at the club was hampered by inconsistent playing time, injuries, and the team’s fluctuating fortunes, including relegation and subsequent promotion battles.

Widely regarded as a technically gifted player capable of operating in central midfield or attacking roles, Aribo earned 30 caps for the Super Eagles and played a key part in Nigeria’s campaigns at the Africa Cup of Nations.

With his contract now at an end, the dynamic midfielder is expected to explore opportunities elsewhere, with several clubs likely to be interested in securing his services on a free transfer.

Aribo is said to be keen on finding a new environment where he can secure regular first-team football and reignite his career ahead of major international tournaments.
