Super Eagles captain, William Troos-Ekong said the Nigeria senior national team is focused on picking the world cup ticket and as well win the next CAF African Nations Cup in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Uyo on Monday evening, Ekong said, "we have experienced players in the team with Alex Iwobi being the most capped and we have players that are young snd very ambitious and these players are very hungry to be at the World Cup. Talking about the generation of these players, I think we have something special here and what we need to do at this moment with the quality of players is to win the 2025 AFCON and be at the world cup next year. "
The captain also spoke on quick adaptation to Coach Eric Chelle's tactics. "It's for the coach to decide that. I mean the quality of players that we have in Super Eagles have football understanding and its process. And.that is why we did great thing in the last game and a source of confidence and we are trying to develop that more and it is not easy to change that in two days training sessions but we are working on it. Thank God we have a lot of intelligent players who have played at high level and are used to changing of tactics from coaches. The coach said it before that we have a lot of quality in the team. And we saw that in the last game."
The 2013 African champions will face Zimbabwe in matchday 6 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo on Tuesday 25th March 2025.
Fourth on the log with six points, South Africa, the Group C leaders will face runners up, Benin Republic in Ivory Coast while Rwanda host Lesotho.
