Super Eagles To Miss Bassey After Semi-Final Booking

Calvin Bassey has been ruled out of Nigeria’s next match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a suspension, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Super Eagles defender will miss Nigeria’s upcoming fixture after receiving a yellow card during the first half of their semi-final encounter against tournament hosts Morocco.

Bassey was cautioned in a tense and closely contested semi-final, in which Morocco enjoyed the greater share of possession in the opening half. The booking proved costly, as it was his second of the tournament, having previously been shown a yellow card during Nigeria’s second-round match against Mozambique.

As a result, the Fulham centre-back is suspended for Nigeria’s next match. Should the Super Eagles overcome Morocco to reach the final, Bassey would be unavailable for the championship match due to the accumulation of yellow cards.

In the other semi-final played on Wednesday evening, Senegal edged Egypt 1–0 to book their place in the final. The reigning African champions will now await the winner of the clash between Nigeria and Morocco.
