Sparta Rotterdam football club keeps their hope of escaping relegation alive on Saturday night, as they secured a convincing 2-1 away victory over Groningen football club in the Netherlands Eredivisie League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria national team first choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was the hero once again for the club, as his brilliant display guided them to a well deserved victory over their host.
Dutch coach Maurice Steijn gave the Super Eagles star another starting role ahead of Netherlands goalkeepers Tim Coremans and Benjamin van Leer and the Nigerian international was able to perform excellently in the game.
The visitors took the lead through Belgium defender Arno Verschueren in the 20th minutes after receiving an assist from Danish star Younes Namli to end the first half 1-0.
Germany star Lennart Thy doubled the lead in the 57th minutes before Bjorn Meijer scored the consolation goal for the home team in the 77th minutes to end the match 2-1 in favour of the away team.
Maduka Okoye was exceptional for the away team throughout the game, and he was able to make five great saves to deny the host an equalizer.
The Nigerian international will now be looking forward to continuing his impressive performance for Sparta Rotterdam football club when they play their next League game.
