Super Eagles star ruled out of Sao Tomé & Principe clash, Returns To London For Treatment

Super Eagles Vice Captain, Williams Troost-Ekong has been ruled out of Nigeria 2023 AFCON qualifiers match against Sao Tomé and Príncipe on Monday after sustaining groin injury in yesterday’s match against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Watford defender copped a groin injury in the 80th minute of the game and was replaced by Leganes’ Kenneth Omeruo.

The Watford Star was involved in the first three games under Portuguese coach, Jose Peseiro and had proven to be an important player early on in the former coach’s reign.

Other players in the team to take Ekong’s place are Kenneth Omeruo, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem and others.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old defender has subsequently left the team’s camp in Abuja and returned to the United Kingdom to start treatment in preparation for the new league football season (English Championship) with his English club, Watford.

The Super Eagles will slug it out against Sao Tome and Principe in the next match of the qualification round at Adrar Stadium in Morocco on Monday, 13th June, 2022 as they hope to take charge of Group A that is currently controlled by Guinea-Bissau.
