Super Falcons' Four-Time WAFCON Winner Announces Retirement

Super Falcons' four-time winner of the African Women's Cup Of Nations in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018, Onome Ebi has officially retired from football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ebi, whose illustrious playing career spanned 22 years as a Super Falcons of Nigeria player, made her debut for the team on September 20, 2003.

At 42 years old, she was the longest-serving player, either male or female, in Nigerian football and the first African footballer, male or female, to play in 6 FIFA World Cup tournaments.

In a post via her official social media platforms, she said: “Today, I officially retire from professional football. The journey has been filled with challenges, victories, and lessons that have shaped me into who I am today. Though I hang up my boots, my purpose in the game continues — to give back, to guide, and to be a voice for players."

During her career, she made history as the first African woman to feature in six FIFA Women's World Cups when she was brought on in the later stages of the Super Falcons’ impressive victory over Australia on the 27th of July, 2023.
