 Super Falcons Name 23-Player Squad For Senegal Friendlies

Head Coach Justine Madugu has unveiled a 23-player squad for the Super Falcons’ upcoming international friendly double-header against Senegal as Nigeria continues preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The squad is led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, star goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and veteran forward Asisat Oshoala.

 It also features the return of experienced players including midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, forwards Francisca Ordega, and Gift Monday.

Foreign-based talents Blessing Nkor (Belarus) and Kafayat Shittu (Turkey) have earned call-ups, while several home-based and other overseas players have been included to strengthen the squad.

Notable inclusions are home-based goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, England-based defender Rofiat Imuran, Israel-based defender Sikiratu Isah, as well as Tosin Demehin, Halimatu Ayinde, Toni Payne, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Joy Omewa.

 Recent league champions Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo, and Omorinsola Babajide have also been selected.

The Super Falcons will face Senegal in two friendly matches at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo.

First Match: Thursday, June 5

Second Match: Sunday, June 8.

Both games serve as crucial preparation for the 2026 WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.

WAFCON Context

Senegal have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya. 

Nigeria, the 10-time African champions, are placed in Group C with Egypt, Zambia, and debutants Malawi.

The tournament doubles as Africa’s qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. 

The top four teams will qualify automatically, while the fifth-placed side will advance to an intercontinental playoff.

The friendlies will give Coach Madugu an important opportunity to assess squad depth and fine-tune tactics ahead of Nigeria’s title defence in Morocco.
