It was a double honour for the Nigeria's Super Falcons in the ongoing 2022 African Women Cup of Nations in Morocco as they qualified for the semi-final and 2023 FIFA World Cup with the quarterfinal triumph over Lionesses of Cameroon BSNsports.com.ng reports.

It wasn't an easy road for the Nigerian senior national women's football team against a hard-fighting Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-final game played in Casablanca.

Despite dominating the game from the start, the Lionesses proved a hard nut crack and denied Super Falcons strike force led by Ifeoma Onumonu.

The first stanza ended in a goalless affair with both teams returning to the dressing room still nursing the ambition of qualifying for the last four.

The second half resumed with the Falcons still on the front foot but their efforts paid off with Rasheedat Ajibade breaking the deadlock just in the hour mark.

Despite leading the game, the defending champions continued to dominate the game denying the Cameroonian the ball possession.

Super Falcons stood their ground despite the pressure and were able to secure a much-needed win to earn them a place in the semi-final and also picked a World Cup ticket to Australia and New Zealand.

The history continued for the Super Falcons as the only team that never crashed out in the quarter-final or missed out on the World Cup qualification.

Another tough duel beckons for Nigeria, as they will face host Morocco in semi-final for a place in the final.
