Super Falcons Set To Beat Cape Verde To African Nations Cup Ticket

By Niyi Busari

Super Falcons will today play their second leg last round of the 2024 African Women's Nations Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in Praia today, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The nine-time African champions have one leg in Morocco following a 5-0 advantage last Thursday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja and would want to consolidate on that to be part of the next African Nations Cup.

The team interim coach, Justin Madugu said despite the 5-0 advantage, they will not take anything for granted. He added that the girls will go out in making sure that they seal the ticket. "Despite the 5-0 advantage in the first leg, we will not take anything for granted. We are at this stadium to go all out against our opponents to seal the ticket." Madugu told the team's media.

Cape Verde will need to score six goals to upset Super Falcons which is undoubtedly an herculean task. The Nigerian girls have not missed any edition of the AWCON since its inception and acquit itself well at the last Women’s World Cup losing to England on penalties shootout.

Though the team is without five key players especially Asisat Oshoala and the team technical adviser Randy Waldrum absence will not be quite felt as the Super Falcons are expected to secure qualification for the AWCON in grand style.

Uchenna Kanu and Esther Okoronkwo who scored a brace in Abuja added to Gift Monday’s fine strike, with the like of stand-in captain Rasheedat Ajibade can wreck any opposition coupled with the fine form of majority of the players.

The match is slated for 6:00 pm Nigerian time.
