Super Falcons Sneak Into Nigeria Amid No Cheers

Super Falcons have returned to Nigeria after participating in the just concluded 2022 Women African Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNsports.com.ng reports.

The team arrived at the Murtala Airport International on Monday afternoon after failing to defend the trophy they won in 2018.

The team rallied back to a back-to-back win against Botswana and Burundi after losing the first group game to Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Their main objective in the tournament was achieved in the quarter-final after they defeated the Indomitable Lioness 1-0 in Casablanca to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup that will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

They however lost to the host Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a controversial manner in the semi final, then to the Shepolopolo of Zambia in the loser's final last Friday.

It makes it the second time Super Falcons will return from the competition without a medal, the first time being in 2012 under Coach Kadiri Ikhana.

The team focus now will be the women's Mundial in down under.
