Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Onyinyechi Echegini has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to intensify preparations as Nigeria eyes qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking from Paris, where she represents Paris Saint-Germain Féminine, the 24-year-old stressed that thorough planning and structured preparation will be decisive if the Super Falcons are to compete effectively against the world’s elite.

Echegini, affectionately nicknamed “Joe” by her PSG teammates — a moniker derived from her initials — emphasised that preparation often separates established global powers from emerging challengers.

“We need to prepare very well. We need to figure some things out, so we can be better,” she told Guardian newspaper.

The midfielder noted that many of Nigeria’s prospective opponents benefit from advanced infrastructure and professional environments that provide competitive advantages.

“When you compete with teams that have all these facilities and, essentially, their lives are easier, you’re already at a disadvantage,” she explained.

While careful not to frame her comments as criticism, Echegini underscored the importance of placing the national team in the strongest possible position to succeed.

“I’m not somebody who wants to complain because, at the end of the day, football is football. But you have to put your team in the best position to compete,” she added.

She also urged the federation to maximise international windows and training camps to strengthen team chemistry and tactical organisation ahead of the tournament.

“I hope we are able to utilize every camp window, so we can be as strong as we can,” she said.

Echegini’s comments reflect her growing influence within the national team setup. Born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, she moved to England at the age of 11 before later relocating to the United States, where she developed her collegiate career at Mississippi State and Florida State universities before transitioning into professional football.

With Nigeria widely expected to contend for qualification, her message signals a clear call for strategic focus as the Super Falcons build toward 2027.
