Super Falcons Strengthened By Arrival Of Abiodun, Gift Monday Ahead Of Malawi Test

Super Falcons have received a timely boost ahead of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with Deborah Abiodun and Gift Monday joining the team's training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The arrival of the two midfielders completes head coach Justine Madugu's 25-player squad as preparations enter the final phase ahead of Nigeria's opening Group C fixture against Malawi.

Abiodun and Monday were initially expected to report to camp earlier in the week but were delayed after the cancellation of their scheduled flight. The travel disruption prevented both players from featuring in Nigeria's final pre-tournament friendly against Tanzania's Twiga Stars.

The Super Falcons rounded off their preparations with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Thursday, providing a confidence boost before the start of the continental championship.

Despite arriving later than planned, Abiodun and Monday have now linked up with the rest of the squad and are expected to participate fully in the team's final training sessions before the tournament begins.

Abiodun was a member of the Super Falcons squad that lifted the WAFCON title in Morocco in 2024, while Monday returns to the national team determined to make her mark after narrowly missing out on selection for the previous edition.

Following the conclusion of their training camp in Casablanca, the Super Falcons are scheduled to travel to Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.

Nigeria will open its WAFCON 2026 campaign against Malawi's Scorchers on Tuesday before taking on Zambia and Egypt in the remaining group-stage fixtures.

The ten-time African champions will be aiming to extend their record as the competition's most successful team by securing an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title.
