Super Falcons Target Improved Performance in Second Friendly Against Senegal

Nigeria's Super Falcons are aiming to raise the intensity level when they face Senegal's Lionesses of Teranga in their second international friendly match on Monday, following a hard-fought encounter between both sides last week.

Head coach Justine Madugu revealed on Sunday that the nine-time African champions are determined to adopt a more aggressive and purposeful approach in the rematch at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo. The fixture serves as part of both teams' preparations for the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to begin next month in Morocco.

The Super Falcons secured a 2-1 victory in Friday's first meeting, thanks to goals from Asisat Oshoala, who converted from the penalty spot, and midfielder Toni Payne. Senegal reduced the deficit with a late goal four minutes from full-time, ensuring a competitive finish to the contest.

Nigeria and Senegal have previously met in WAFCON qualifying, with the Falcons emerging victorious in 2016. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Nigeria claimed a 2-0 win in the return fixture to advance with a 3-1 aggregate scoreline.

At this year's WAFCON in Morocco, the Super Falcons will be chasing a record-extending 11th continental title. Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and tournament debutants Malawi. Senegal, meanwhile, will compete in Group A, where they will face hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.

The tournament will run from July 25 to August 16 and will also serve as the African qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will earn automatic qualification, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental playoff for a chance to secure a place at the global showpiece.
