Super Falcons to Receive Over ₦237 Million Each in Unprecedented Reward for WAFCON 2024 Triumph

Super Falcons received record-breaking financial and national honors in recognition of their stunning victory at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), marking a historic moment for women’s football in the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The team claimed their 10th continental title in a thrilling 3–2 comeback win against hosts Morocco in Rabat, completing their self-proclaimed "Mission X" — a goal to reclaim African dominance.

As part of a landmark reward package, each Super Falcons player will receive over ₦237 million in combined cash bonuses, real estate, and national honors — the most significant incentive ever awarded to a Nigerian women’s team.

Historic Rewards Breakdown

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nigeria earned $1 million in prize money for emerging champions — double the $500,000 awarded to winners in the previous edition, signaling increased support for women’s football across the continent.

At a reception held at the State House in Abuja on July 28, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced a $100,000 (₦153 million) reward for each player. In addition, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, chaired by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pledged ₦10 million per squad member, including the technical crew.

The incentives extend beyond cash. Each player will receive a furnished three-bedroom home at the "Renewed Hope" Housing Estate in Kasanna, Abuja, valued at ₦55 million, and has also been conferred with the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also committed to sharing 30% of the $1 million CAF prize money directly with the players — an additional $12,500 (about ₦9.6 million) per player, based on a 24-player squad.

Members of the coaching and technical crew are not left out — each will receive $50,000, along with the same housing gift and OON recognition.

A New Era for Women’s Football

This unprecedented recognition marks a significant shift in how women’s football is supported in Nigeria, contrasting starkly with past experiences of delayed payments and unmet promises that often overshadowed the team’s successes.

Government officials have assured that disbursements will be made swiftly via the Central Bank and Ministry of Sports to ensure the integrity of this historic gesture is preserved.

While additional commercial endorsements have yet to be announced, the Super Falcons' WAFCON 2024 victory has already redefined standards for rewarding excellence in Nigerian sport.
