The president of the African soccer ruling body Patrice Motsepe has officially confirmed the new name of the proposed African Super League, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nigeria's Champions Enyimba International are among the 8 teams listed to commence the competition in August but the competition was postponed as the football body considered the name change.

Motsepe while speaking to BeIN Sports, on Sunday made it known that the name has been changed to African Football League and further explained the reason for the name change.

" We have decided to change the name of the Super League to the African Football League.

"The African Football League kicks off next October.

"It will be the best league thanks to a huge prize fund.

"Our friends in Europe advised us not to use the expression 'Super League' due to the negative associations with the recent failed attempt in European football," he explained.
