T20 World Cup Qualifier: NCF Unveils Final Yellow Greens Squad
Sampson Adedeji
Head coach of the Female Yellow Greens, Leke Oyede, has announced the final 14-player squad for the 2026 ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier, scheduled to hold in Namibia from August 28 to September 7, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Oyede made bold selection decisions, leaving out some experienced names including former captain Favour Eseigbe, Esther Sandy, and Abigail Igbobie. In their place, Peculiar Agboya has been handed the captain’s armband for the Namibian campaign.
Also listed is Piety Lucky, who captained Nigeria at the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia earlier this year.
She will be joined by several teammates from that squad such as Lilian Ude, Shola Adekunle, Kehinde Amusa, Peace Usen, Victory Igbinedion, Anointed Akhigbe, Christabel Chukwuonye, and Omosigho Eguakun. Wicketkeeper Sarah Etim has been named vice-captain, while newcomer Oseyande Omonkhobhio earns her maiden call-up.
Fierce batter Salome Sunday and all-rounder Racheal Samson complete the roster. Nigeria will compete against Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone in the qualifiers as they chase a ticket to the 2026 T20 World Cup.
