Tanzania Are Champions Of Kwibuka Women's T20

The Tanzanian female cricket team were crowned champions of the 2022 Kwibuka Women's T20 cricket tournament on Saturday in Kigali.


Tanzania defeated defending champions Kenya by 44 runs to win the trophy for the 2nd time.


Tanzania won the toss and batted first with a total of 114 runs in the first inning. Kenya made a chase but was limited to 70 runs and all out in 20 overs in the second inning.


Tanzania's Perice Zakayo won Player of the Match having batted 29 runs and taken a wicket. She also made a maiden over as a bowler to help her country secure a perfect victory.


Meanwhile, Nigerian captain Blessing Etim and Rwandan captain, Marie Diane both congratulated the Tanzania team for their well-deserved victory.


Tanzania won all 8 games in the competition. They are the topmost ICC-ranked team in the tournament.


Uganda's Awino Kevin won the best batter with 253 runs while Nasra Saidi of Tanzania was the highest wickets taker with 15 dismissals on her record.


Four Nigerian girls however won Player of the Match awards in the tournament. These include 1. Rukayat Abdulrasaq (Brazil vs Nigeria)

2. Racheal Samson (Germany vs Nigeria)

3. Favour Esiegbe (Botswana vs Nigeria)

4. Salome Sunday (Brazil vs Nigeria)


Incidentally, all the Uyo-based players in the Nigerian team gave their best to the satisfaction of captain Blessing. Esther Sandy 3rd the Best Fielder for Nigeria. Sarah Ekwere a debutant was 2nd best Fielder with 3 dismissals and the Best Fielder was Salome Sunday who had 6 dismissals to her name.


In batting, Nigeria's Best Batter was Salome Sunday, 139 runs from Blue Diamonds Cricket Club, Uyo. The captain was 2nd Best better Blessing Etim, 84 runs, Ultimate Cricket Club, Uyo and 3rd Nigeria's Best batter was Esther Sandy, 59 runs from Blue Diamonds Cricket Club.


The national female cricket team captain, Etim assured that with a practice net installed in Uyo, "the girls will perform better" for the country.
