Tanzania are planning to appoint former Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba as an ambassador for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as part of efforts to boost the tournament’s global profile, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The move is being driven by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is keen to leverage Drogba’s international reputation and influence to promote the competition.

Drogba was recently invited by the country’s Minister of Sports, where he took part in discussions focused on marketing and elevating the visibility of the tournament across the continent and beyond.

Tanzania is set to co-host the 2027 AFCON alongside Kenya and Uganda, and the potential appointment of the Chelsea legend is seen as a strategic step in strengthening preparations for the prestigious continental showpiece.
