Team Nigeria Chess to the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India depart the country this afternoon, BSNSports.com.ng reports.


The Nigeria Chess Federation have confirmed 10 qualified chess players for the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 to take place from July 28 to August 10, 2022, in Chennai, the Capital City of the Tamil Nadu region located on the Southeastern coast of India.


The ten players include five males on the Open Section Team and five females on the Female Team who will represent the country for the biggest chess competition of the year.

 

The male team players are the Nigeria’s most rated player Adebayo Adegboyega , (Fide Master) Kigigha Bomo (Fide Master) Akinseye Abiola (Fide Master) and two International masters in person of 20-year-old Issac OKeke and Balogun Oluwafemi .

 

The female team includes, Ofowino Toritsemuwa , Enomah Emmanuella Trust , Onoja Iyefu Joy , Suleiman Azumi Ayisha and Ogbiyoyo Perpetual Eloho (WFM) .

 

According to the International Chess Federation (FIDE) this year edition recorded an increase number of participating teams from the number recorded in Batumi 2018.

 

In the open section, two participating team have been added from the last edition to make it 187 while 11 teams registered for the Women event to make it 162
