Team Nigeria Defy The Rains, As Paris Olympics Kickoff

Ibrahim Lateef

Team Nigeria led by its flagbearer Tobi Amusan defied the odds as Paris kicked off its first Summer Olympics in a century on Friday with a rain-soaked, rule-breaking opening ceremony studded with stars and fantasy along the Seine River, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

On-and-off showers the first rain at a Summer Olympics' opening ceremony in more than 70 years, did not seem to hamper the enthusiasm of the athletes.

A total of 85 boats carried the team delegations on a four-mile journey through the centre of Paris, with more than 300,000 spectators lining the banks of the river.

Some held umbrellas as they rode boats down the river in a showcase of the city’s resilience.

Team Nigeria athletes also showed swag wearing different cultural outfits in green and white colours.
