Team Nigeria's participation in the Rugby Africa Men's Sevens Tournament has been thrown into uncertainty following the postponement of the competition due to health concerns linked to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament, which was initially scheduled to take place from 20 to 21 June 2026 in Mauritius, was postponed after Mauritian health authorities issued guidance regarding public health risks associated with the Ebola outbreak.

The decision has come as a major setback for participating nations, including Nigeria, whose players and officials had been intensifying preparations ahead of the continental showpiece.

Rugby Africa confirmed that the postponement was made following consultations with relevant authorities, prioritising the health and safety of athletes, officials, supporters and all stakeholders involved in the event.

The continental governing body is expected to communicate a new date for the tournament after further assessments and discussions with Mauritian authorities.

For Team Nigeria, the postponement means an unexpected interruption to their campaign plans as they await further updates on when the tournament will be rescheduled.
