Nigeria’s relay teams will participate in every one of the six events at the 2026 World Athletics Relays, World Athletics confirmed on Tuesday in the official entry list, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The development marks a significant boost for Team Nigeria, which had initially secured qualification in only three events: the men’s 4x400m, women’s 4x400m, and the mixed 4x100m.
However, the global governing body opened a window for all nations to register for additional events they had not qualified for, and Nigeria’s entries for the remaining three were approved.
This means Nigerian athletes will now line up in:
Men’s 4x100m
Women’s 4x100m
Men’s 4x400m (qualified)
Women’s 4x400m (qualified)
Mixed 4x100m (qualified)
Mixed 4x400m
The 2026 World Relays are scheduled to take place on May 2 and 3 in Gaborone, Botswana.
The event serves as a key qualifier for the 2026 World Athletics Championships and offers valuable ranking points towards future major competitions.
