Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has dismissed claims suggesting he intentionally snubbed invitations to play for the Super Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tella, who has only one cap for the three-time African champions, has previously withdrawn from national team call-ups due to injuries.

Despite those absences, the 25-year-old has faced criticism and accusations of prioritizing club commitments over representing Nigeria.

Speaking to NFF TV, Tella clarified his stance: “It’s good to be back. There’s been this perception that I didn’t want to play for the national team, and that’s never been the case,” he said.

“I was just unfortunate to pick up an injury the last time I was called up.”

Now named in the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament, Tella reaffirmed his dedication to the national team.

“I’m happy to be here, happy to be back, and always proud and honoured to represent Nigeria,” he added.
