Terem Moffi Voices Deep Disappointment After Super Eagles Miss Out On World Cup Qualification

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi has openly expressed his frustration and sadness following the Super Eagles’ failure to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, warning that many players in the current squad may never get the chance to play on football’s biggest stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The OGC Nice forward, who turns 27 this year, highlighted the harsh reality facing the team after another qualification campaign fell short. 

Nigeria previously missed the 2022 tournament in Qatar after a painful away-goals defeat to Ghana in the final playoff round and now faces an uphill battle to reach the expanded 2026 edition.

In candid remarks, Moffi pointed to the advancing age of the squad as a major concern.

“I’m 27 now, and in the next World Cup I’ll be 31. Most of the squad will also be in their 30s by then. It’s almost impossible for us to be there if we’re being totally honest,” Moffi said.

He added: “For some of us, we might have to watch from home. How do we tell our children that we had two chances to be at the World Cup and we didn’t take it? It’s horrible to think about.”

Moffi’s comments reflect the growing sense of frustration within the Nigerian camp after years of inconsistent performances on the continental and international stage. 

The Super Eagles, once regular participants at the World Cup, have struggled in recent qualifying cycles despite boasting several high-profile players plying their trade in Europe’s top leagues.

The latest setback has intensified calls for structural changes within the Nigeria Football Federation and the national team setup as they look to rebuild and restore the country’s proud footballing legacy.

Moffi and his teammates now turn their focus to upcoming international fixtures, hoping to regain momentum and keep Nigeria’s long-term World Cup ambitions alive.
