Teslim Balogun Stadium Undergoing Upgrade, Rehabilitation
By Precious Oham
Extensive upgrade and rehabilitation work is ongoing at the Teslim Balogun Stadium by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos State Government, BSNSports.com.ng reports.Â
Aside from having a brand new grass pitch, sprinklers, and standard scoreboard, the edifice, which opened in 1984, will also be equipped with modern floodlights, a cladded and covered roof, a tartan track, and an upgraded VIP lounge and players dressing rooms.
Located in Surulere, Lagos State, the Teslim Balogun Stadium is a multi-use, 24,325-capacity
facility used mostly for football matches.
Named after former professional footballer Teslim Balogun, the facility is located directly opposite the multipurpose National Stadium.
Started in 1984 under the administration of military governor Gbolahan Mudasiru, construction continually stalled under military regimes, and the stadium became a white elephant. By the time the stadium was completed in 2007, it had taken 23 years to build and cost over N1.3 billion.
