Three-Way Battle Emerges for NPFL Golden Boot
By Admin
The race for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Golden Boot has developed into a tightly contested three-way battle, with Remo Stars forward Victor Mbaoma rejoining the league’s leading scorers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Mbaoma scored his 12th goal of the season in Remo Stars’ 2–1 defeat to Enyimba, his former club. Although the goal proved insufficient to secure a result for his side, it was enough to move the experienced striker level at the top of the scoring chart.
He is now tied with Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City and Katsina United’s Uche Collins, who have each also recorded 12 goals this season, underlining the competitiveness of the current campaign.
At 29, Mbaoma brings experience to the contest, having previously featured in Algeria and Rwanda. He is aiming to secure his second NPFL Golden Boot, having first won the accolade in 2021 during his time with Enyimba.
Close behind the leading trio are Godwin Obaje of Enugu Rangers, Chidera Michael of Enyimba, and Emeka Obioma of Abia Warriors, all on 11 goals. Several other players remain within touching distance on 10 goals, setting the stage for a closely fought conclusion to the season.
With only a handful of matches remaining, the race for the league’s top scorer award is expected to go down to the final rounds.
