Tickets For FIFA World Cup Playoffs in Mexico Go On Sale from $11

Tickets for this month’s World Cup inter-confederation playoffs in Mexico have gone on sale, with prices starting at 200 Mexican pesos (approximately $11), football’s world governing body announced on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament will determine two of the final six qualification places for the expanded 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

Six nations — Iraq, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bolivia, New Caledonia, Jamaica and Suriname — will compete across two Mexican host cities that are also scheduled to stage matches during the World Cup finals.

Matches will be played in Guadalajara and Monterrey from March 26 to 31. According to FIFA, ticket prices range from 200 to 300 pesos, offering significantly more affordable access compared to the finals next year.

By contrast, ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup have drawn criticism from some supporters. The lowest-priced tickets for the finals begin at $60, with dynamic pricing and resale market activity pushing many seats beyond the reach of average fans.

Security Reassurances in Guadalajara

The start of ticket sales comes amid heightened attention on security in Guadalajara following recent unrest linked to the death of Nemesio Oseguera, widely known as “El Mencho,” a cartel leader whose killing sparked violence in parts of Jalisco state.

Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, has sought to reassure visitors, stating there is “no risk” to fans travelling to the country for the tournament.

Local officials in Jalisco have also moved to calm concerns as preparations continue for both the playoff tournament and the 2026 World Cup. Juan José Frangie, head of the Guadalajara Organising Committee and mayor of Zapopan — home to Estadio Akron, one of Mexico’s World Cup venues — said security measures had been reinforced.

Authorities confirmed that an additional 2,500 personnel from the National Guard and Ministry of Defence have been deployed to the region. Frangie told local media that calm had returned to the metropolitan area and expressed confidence in the state’s readiness to host international visitors.

The playoff tournament marks an important milestone in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup, with Mexico positioning itself to deliver both an accessible and secure football spectacle.
