Tobi Amusan Vows To Fight Anti-Doping "Missed Test" Charge By AIU

World record holder in the women's 100m hurdles - Tobi Amusan, has vowed to fight the anti-doping "missed test" charge slammed at her by the Athletics Integrity Unit in the early hours of today (Wednesday, 19th July 2023), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tobi, 26 years old, called herself a "clean athlete" in reaction to the charge in a post on her official Instagram handle after the AIU found her non-compliant with the basic requirements for passing a whereabouts test. 

The Athletics Integrity Unit's Register Testing Pool (RTP) subsection 5 states that; "The whereabouts of an Athlete will be recorded as 'failure' under the World Athletics RTP when; the Athlete has filed whereabouts information but is not available for testing at the location corresponding to your 60-minute time slot."

Under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, any whereabouts combinations failure in the above statutes within a period of 12 months, will be deemed to have "missed a test" which constitutes an anti-doping rule violation.

The consequences of such will include an applicable sanction of 2 years ineligibility, subject to a reduction to a minimum of a year depending on the gravity of the offense committed.

In response to the above, Tobi put out a statement to defend her integrity through the available legal means.

"Today the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having 3 missed tests in 12 months.

"I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month's World Championships. 

"I am a CLEAN ATHLETE, and I am regularly; (maybe more than usual) tested by the AIU - I was tested within days of my third "missed test." 

"I have FAITH that this will be resolved in my favor and that I will be competing at the World Championships in August. 

"In the meantime, I ask that the media respect my privacy while I address these allegations in my upcoming arbitration."

The Nigeria-born World Record sensation just clocked 12.35 seconds two days ago after previously hitting a season-best timing record of 12.34 at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.
