Tom Saintfiet has stepped down from his role as head coach of the Mali national team with immediate effect, bringing an end to a relatively successful two-year stint in charge of the Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Belgian tactician, who still had a contract running until August 31, opted to leave earlier than scheduled to allow both himself and the Malian Football Federation adequate time to plan their respective next steps.

During his tenure, Saintfiet oversaw 17 competitive matches, suffering just two defeats a record that underlines the stability and competitiveness he brought to the team.

His departure now leaves Mali in search of a new head coach ahead of upcoming international engagements.
