There is no doubt that the 2023 African Nations Cup is filled with surprising results from the beginning of the championship till date, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
BSN Sports collated 11 of the facts that emanated from the African best football competition. Here are the 11 Facts.
1. None of the five countries that represented Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in United Arab Emirates made it to the quarter-final of the 2023 African Nations Cup. The five African representatives at the FIFA World Cup are: Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, and Morocco.
2. Morocco, Egypt, Ghana and Algeria were eliminated by underdogs after being tipped to outrun their conquerors.
3. DR Congo qualified for the Quarterfinals without winning a game in regular time. They recorded four draws. Three draws in the group stage and one in the Round of 16.

5. Namibia and Mauritania qualified for their first ever Round of 16. Mauritania beat Algeria 1-0, while Namibia beat Tunisia 1-0.

They went on to eliminate defending champions, Senegal by beating them 1-1 (5-4 on penalties) in the AFCON Round of 16.
