Trabzonspor Manager Defends Decision To Play Onuachu As Centre-Back

Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke has defended his decision to deploy Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu as an emergency centre-back during his side’s 2–1 victory over Göztepe on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tekke said the move was forced by circumstance after his team was reduced to ten men and left without recognised defenders.

 “We were down to 10 men. No right-back. No central defender. We had to pull Onuachu back into defence out of necessity,” Tekke explained.

The Nigerian forward featured in the final 20 minutes, including stoppage time, and produced a disciplined defensive performance.

Onuachu recorded eleven clearances and played a key role in helping Trabzonspor withstand late pressure to secure all three points.
