Transfer: Fiorentina Wade Off Arsenal Interest, Tie Down Nigerian Youngster On A Long-Term Contract
By Sampson Adedeji
Italian Serie A side Fiorentina had waded off the interest of the English Premier League club Arsenal by nailing down Nigerian youngster Michael Kayode to a long-term contract, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Spending time in the Juventus and Gozzano youth academies, he came to Fiorentina in 2021 and was promoted to the senior squad this summer.
The serious knee injury to defender Dodo saw Kayode play far more than he expected to, already featuring eight times between Serie A and the Europa Conference League, even providing one assist.
His performances earned interest from the likes of Premier League club Arsenal, but he was always focused on remaining at Fiorentina.
That was made official today when Kayode signed a new contract that holds him at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until June 2028, with an option to extend for a further year.
Despite playing for the Azzuris youth team, Kayode is still eligible for Nigeria's Super Eagles.
