Transfer Update: Abia Warriors Star Player On Trial In South Africa

Abia Warriors defender Collins Nwoburuoke has taken his quest for an overseas deal to South Africa as he continues trials with clubs in the country, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The enterprising centre-back, who remains under contract with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit, initially had a short stint with Durban City, where he impressed in training sessions and practice matches.
His performances there earned him an invitation from South African giants Orlando Pirates, who assessed him over the past week.
However, the 22-year-old has now wrapped up his trial with the Buccaneers and returned to focus on negotiations with Durban City, who are believed to be keen on securing his services ahead of the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
Nwoburuoke has been one of Abia Warriors’ most consistent performers over the past two NPFL campaigns, catching the eye with his strength, composure on the ball, and aerial ability.
Sources close to the player revealed that he is eager to test himself in a more competitive environment and sees South Africa as a perfect springboard for his ambitions.
Abia Warriors are said to be monitoring developments closely, as the defender remains an important part of their plans for the 2025/26 season.
Any potential move will require agreement between the Umuahia-based side and his prospective employers.
If the transfer materialises, Nwoburuoke would become the latest Nigerian talent to join the growing list of players plying their trade in South Africa, following in the footsteps of compatriots who have successfully made the switch in recent years.
