Hamburger SV's Sporting Director, Claus Costa, has shared the rationale behind the club's decision to sign Nigerian defender Jordan Torunarigha, despite having several other options available, BSNSports.com.ng reports

Torunarigha, a former German youth international who recently pledged allegiance to Nigeria, completed his medical and signed a three-year contract with the Bundesliga club on Wednesday evening.

“Jordan has established himself as a key player and top performer at Gent,” Costa stated. “We’ve been closely monitoring his development—both on and off the pitch—and we’re excited that he sees his future with HSV.”

Costa highlighted Torunarigha’s physical strength, athleticism, and vast experience, which includes nearly 300 professional appearances and 30 matches for Germany’s youth national teams. He emphasized that these qualities make the defender a valuable addition to the team.

“Jordan is a clear-headed, professional, and mature individual,” Costa added. “His progress in recent years has been remarkable. He combines excellent speed with strong aerial and tackling abilities.”

“With his defensive stability and his ability to contribute to our build-up play, Jordan perfectly fits our tactical needs,” Costa concluded.
