Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho is back on the transfer market after his contract with Spanish side Sevilla was terminated on deadline day, sparking immediate interest from clubs across Europe, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 27-year-old striker only joined Sevilla in the summer but failed to settle in Spain, with limited playing time and injuries hampering his progress.
Following a mutual agreement, both parties decided to part ways, leaving the former Leicester City man free to negotiate with new suitors.
One of the first clubs to open discussions with Iheanacho is Scottish Premiership powerhouse Celtic, who are in the market for an experienced forward to bolster their squad for both domestic and European campaigns.
Sources close to the deal reveal that initial talks have already taken place, with the Nigerian eager to reignite his career in a competitive environment.
Iheanacho, who made his name at Manchester City before enjoying a successful spell with Leicester City, where he won the FA Cup in 2021, is keen on regular football as he eyes a return to the Super Eagles setup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Celtic see him as a valuable addition to their attacking options, given his pedigree in top European leagues and proven track record in front of goal.
However, interest is also expected from clubs in Turkey and the Middle East, which could complicate negotiations.
With the free agent market still active beyond the transfer deadline, Iheanacho’s future could be resolved in the coming days, and a move to Celtic Park would mark his first venture into Scottish football.
