Transfer Update: Kaizer Chiefs Coach Shares Latest On Nigerian Striker Pursuit

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has offered an update on the club’s chase for Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Soweto giants have been one of the most active teams in the ongoing transfer window as they prepare for an exciting 2025/26 season.
Chiefs recently returned from their pre-season camp in the Netherlands, where Nabi put the squad through intense sessions as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing league campaign that saw them miss out on a top-eight finish.
However, they did manage to end their decade-long trophy drought by clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup in May, defeating arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.
Looking to build on that success, the Amakhosi have been busy in the market, securing the signatures of Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Flavio Silva.
Despite the signings, Chiefs are not done yet, with more reinforcements expected before the transfer window closes in September.
One of their key targets remains Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro, who is still under contract with Sundowns.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at AmaZulu, where he scored six goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking on Tuesday, Nabi revealed that administrative hurdles are delaying the deal. “That player [Ighodaro] belongs to another team with administrative issues, but he or another striker on our transfer list will be welcomed,” Nabi said.
“For now, we will wait to hear from our administration if he or another striker will join. I saw him play for AmaZulu last season, and I believe he’s a good player, but he doesn’t belong to our club, so we can’t say much more about it,” he told FARpost.
