Habeeb Ogunneye has expressed his excitement after completing a season-long loan move from Manchester United to Newport County, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian youngster revealed that the chance to reunite with Exiles boss Dave Hughes played a major role in his decision.

Hughes, now at Newport, previously coached Ogunneye during his time with Manchester United's U-21 team.

“Once I knew Newport was interested and Dave Hughes was there, it was an easy decision,” Ogunneye said.

“I worked closely with him at Manchester United for two years. He’s a great coach who taught me a lot, and I have huge respect for him.”

The 19-year-old right-back also emphasized the significance of the move, marking his first step into senior football.

“It’s an important moment for me, and I feel ready for the challenge. I met and trained with the squad on Monday, and the players have been really welcoming,” he added.

“Everyone’s focused and hardworking, and I’m eager to contribute.

“My goal is to play as many games as possible and help the team achieve success.”
