Transfer Update: Onyeka Poised For Bochum Loan Move
Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria-eligible midfielder Francis Onyeka is set to join VfL Bochum on a season-long loan from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The talented 18-year-old attacking midfielder has been a part of Leverkusen’s setup since 2014, steadily climbing through the youth ranks.
Despite being widely regarded as one of the club’s brightest academy products, Onyeka has found it difficult to secure a regular spot in the star-studded first team.
He has made senior appearances for Leverkusen, featuring once each in the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal over the past two seasons.
With limited playing time and stiff competition in midfield, Leverkusen is keen for Onyeka to gain regular first-team experience.
Recently relegated Bochum, who will compete in the 2. Bundesliga next season, has emerged as the likely destination for the young talent.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Onyeka remains eligible to represent either nation at international level.
Though he has played for Germany’s U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18 teams, he has yet to make a senior appearance—leaving the door open for a potential switch to Nigeria.
