Transfer Update: Super Falcons Goalkeeper Joins French St Etienne

French Feminine side St Etienne has announced the acquisition of Nigeria's Super Falcons goalkeeper Yewande Balogun, BSNsports.com.ng has gathered.

Born in Washington, D.C. Yewande trained at the University of Maryland and signed her professional contract with Ottawa (Canada) in 2009, then played for Washington Freedom (2010) then Chesapeake Charge (2011) before playing the next seven seasons with Youngbloods FC where they were crowned Champion of the Amateur League in 2017.

She wore the jersey of the American national teams very early on representing them from the U14 to U20 category before switching allegiance to Nigeria.

"This Saturday, Yewande Balogun signed up for AS Saint-Étienne. The Nigerian international joins the Saint-Etienne Division 2 squad and offers Laurent Mortel a second profile for the position of goalkeeper," the club said.

"I am very happy to sign here. Saint-Étienne has a rich history and becoming a member of this great is cleally incredible. It is also a major step in my career, as I dream of playing in France since I was little. Today, a different experience and a new challenge are in front of me. I am looking forward to training, playing and having an impact on the results of the team," Yewande said.

The lanky goalkeeper made her Super Falcons debut in the year 2021
