Tunisia To Withdraw From AFCON 2023 Qualifiers

The Tunisian Football Federation is considering withdrawing from the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers which is scheduled to commence in June this year (2022), BSNSports.com.ng reports.


The intention was expressed by the president of the governing body of Tunisian football, Wadie Jary, in statements to the Attessia TV channel, on account of the schedule of matches for the qualifying group stage of the AFCON 2023, which he considers tight, taking into account the participation of the players selected for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.


The first encounters of the qualifying group stage for AFCON 2023 will take place a June, September and October of this year (2022), which excludes any possibility of scheduling friendlies on these dates before the start of the World Cup, according to the Tunisian FA President.


Wadie Jary also revealed that the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) submitted a request to CAF for re-adjustments in the timing of the matches of the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers, for Tunisia to prepare ahead of the 2022 World Cup.


Wadie Jary revealed that the Tunisian Football Federation has been in contact with some European teams to schedule a friendly gator to participate in the World Cup. Mexico, El Salvador and Ecuador are some teams that have already requested friendly games against Tunisia, according to the Tunisian leader.


Tunisian team are drawn in Group D alongside France, Denmark, Peru or Australia and the United Arab Emirates in Qatar 2022 World Cup.
