Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens secured their first win at the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia, defeating New Zealand by two runs on Monday.

This marked their long-awaited debut after their initial match against Samoa was delayed due to rain on Saturday in Sarawak, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Despite a rain delay that pushed the start time by over two hours and shortened the game, the Nigerian team was undeterred.

New Zealand chose to field first, giving the Junior Yellow Greens the chance to bat.

Captain Lucky Piety led the way, hitting Nigeria's first six in a composed innings. The team posted a total of 65 runs for six wickets in 13 overs.

In the second innings, Sarah Bakhita’s squad executed a controlled bowling strategy and successfully restricted New Zealand to 63 runs for the loss of six wickets, clinching a hard-earned victory.
