U17 WAFU B: Golden Eaglets Duo Named Among Tournament’s Future Stars

The WAFU Zone B U17 African Cup of Nations qualifying tournament concluded on Saturday with Côte d’Ivoire emerging champions after defeating Ghana in the final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Both countries sealed their tickets to the upcoming U17 AFCON.

Following the competition, Adama Guira head of youth football development for the WAFU Zone B and a former Burkina Faso international revealed his list of the Top 5 standout talents from the tournament, highlighting two Nigerian players among the future stars of African football. 

  1. Cheick Malo (Côte d’Ivoire) A commanding midfielder, Malo impressed with his composure, ball recovery, and clean distribution. His leadership qualities and technical prowess were vital to Côte d’Ivoire’s triumph.
  2. Boluwatife Thompson (Nigeria) An exciting winger blessed with blistering pace and excellent ball control, Thompson dazzled defenders with his dribbling and quick movements. He’s considered one of Nigeria’s brightest attacking prospects 
  3. David Edeh (Nigeria) Edeh stood out with his intelligence, vision, and elegant playmaking. His ability to dictate tempo and create chances made him a key performer for the Golden Eaglets throughout the tournament. 
  4. Bema Doumbia (Côte d’Ivoire) Nicknamed the “Little Messi” of the tournament, Doumbia scored three goals and showcased exceptional dribbling and finishing skills. His flair and creativity made him a constant threat. 
  5.  Kingsley Fosu Senior (Ghana) A dynamic full-back, Fosu combined defensive discipline with attacking intent. His energy, tactical awareness, and pinpoint crosses made him one of Ghana’s most consistent players.The inclusion of Nigeria’s Boluwatife Thompson and David Edeh in the top five reaffirms the Golden Eaglets’ reputation as a breeding ground for Africa’s next generation of football stars.
