U17 World Cup: Senegal Withdraws Appeal, Agrees To Return Home

By Sampson Adedeji

The Senegal Football Federation has finally withdrawn its appeal letter sent to France using an ineligible player Yanis Issoufou against the Junior Teranga Lions in an ongoing U17 World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

France defeated Senegal 5-3 on penalties in the second-round game but the African champions decided to protest after they discovered that Yanis has played for Niger in the African qualifier before moving to France.

But the football body on Friday afternoon withdrew its appeal after they understood that the timing of their protest was late.

"The elements recounted in your letter on the contrary suggest the meaning of the decision which is not to sanction France.

“Given all this, the FSF decides to renounce the referral today and asks FIFA to take note of this", the FSF statement said.

It remains to be seen whether Yanis Issoufou will be able to compete in the rest of the U17 World Cup with the French team.
