U18 Hockey5s Youth African Cup: Nigeria Secure Bronze

Nigeria’s U18 men’s hockey team have secured a bronze medal at the inaugural U18 Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup in Nairobi, Kenya, BSN sports.com.ng reports

The Nigerian youngsters finished third in the men’s competition after an impressive campaign at the tournament, which is taking place at the Sikh Union Club from August 6 to 8, 2026.

Kenya emerged champions to claim the gold medal, while South Africa finished runners-up with the silver medal.

The tournament also served as the African qualifier for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, scheduled to take place in December 2026.

Nigeria’s bronze-medal finish means the team finished behind champions Kenya and runners-up South Africa as Africa’s representatives at the global tournament.

The Hockey5s Youth Africa Cup features both men’s and women’s competitions and marks an important milestone in the development of the fast-growing Hockey5s format on the continent.
