U20 AFCON: I Would Have Preferred Facing Nigeria At The Group Stage - Uganda U20 Coach

Sampson Adedeji

The head coach of the Uganda U20 Jackson Mayanja had said he would have preferred his team to be grouped alongside so-called big teams including Nigeria's Flying Eagles and Junior Teranga Lions of Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng report.

Responding to the group stage draw that was held a few days ago, he said playing against a strong team will make the players work harder.

“It is always good to face the big teams in the group stage because it motivates players to work harder.

"Sometimes players come to play in the group underrating some teams and when they hear the so-called giants they are very serious,” he said.

Uganda the AFCON U-20 runners-up in 2021 when the tournament was held in Mauritania has this time been placed alongside the Central African Republic, Congo Brazzaville and South Sudan in Group B.

Twelve teams placed in three groups will take part in the competition slated for February 19th to March 11th, 2023 in Egypt.
